The BEST Keto Cocktails

Just because you’re on a keto diet doesn’t mean you have to give up your happy hour! Enjoy any of these low carb cocktails and stick to your diet goals- these drinks are sugar free, and each one is low carb and keto! Most liquors are naturally low carb, but once you start incorporating the syrups and other add-ins, you really up the carb count. I lower the carbs (and calories!) by using my Keto Simple Syrup and Sugar Free Syrups. This way you can still enjoy a delicious cocktail in the evening, but without having to worry about the carbs!

You can easily make a large batch of these cocktails to serve at your next party, brunch, bridal shower, birthday party- really, any celebration! No one will ever believe you that these drinks are keto- there’s so much flavor in each of them, they’ll think you’re a professional bartender! Serve with a tray of Keto Snacks, Keto Desserts or a beautifully simple Charcuterie Board for a lovely presentation and some delicious recipes! PS- don’t forget the cookies!

Keto Simple Syrup

My Keto Simple Syrup has been a game changer in my keto cocktail routine! I make this super easy simple syrup with only Liquid Monkfruit and water, making this easy homemade simple syrup zero calorie, sugar free and zero carbs! Simple syrup is a staple of many cocktails, and by replacing traditional simple syrup with this homemade keto syrup, you can have beautiful keto cocktails that taste like you got them at your favorite restaurant, but at home and without any of the carbs!

You only need two ingredients to make this keto simple syrup- water and Liquid Monkfruit. You don’t even need to boil water to make this! Just combine one cup of water with one tablespoon of the monkfruit and stir. That’s it! If you wanted a richer syrup, you could add more of the sweetener. Store in the fridge or on the countertop! You can use this syrup in a 1:1 conversion with traditional simple syrup.

Can you drink alcohol on keto?

Yes, you can! It does depend on the type of alcohol you are wanting to enjoy. Beer and wine are high in carbs and are not recommended on a keto diet. Traditional mixed drinks tend to be high in carbs, but that’s why I’ve made my own recipes so you can enjoy delicious sugar free cocktails! Most spirits are naturally carb free, so they’re a great way to enjoy a keto happy hour! Tequila, whiskey, gin, vodka and rum each contain zero carbs, so they’re perfect for your bar cart!

More keto drinks

Of course, there are other ways to enjoy keto drinks besides cocktails! Below are some of my favorite ways to enjoy a sugar free sip!

Keto Bourbon Caramel Latte

You will love this Keto Bourbon Caramel Latte-it is the perfect keto coffee cocktail! Your favorite coffee is combined with whiskey, sugar free caramel syrup and heavy cream! This skinny cocktail is super indulgent while still being under 2 net carbs! This drink is made for chilly evenings, curled up in a blanket with a good book.

This caramel latte is sugar free, so you don’t have to worry about it being a problem with your keto diet. You also only need 4 ingredients to make this easy cocktail recipe, so you can have it ready in no time! This recipe could also easily be doubled for entertaining! The caramel sauce compliments the whiskey so well, and the coffee and cream really bring the drink together. So cozy up and try this skinny cocktail tonight!

Ingredients in this Coffee Whiskey drink

As always, here is a quick overview of the ingredients used in our sugar free coffee. For the complete recipe, just scroll to the bottom of the page.

  • Coffee – This is best with fresh, warm coffee.
  • Bourbon Whiskey – It doesn’t have to be the expensive stuff for this to turn out tasty!
  • Sugar free caramel syrup – I’ve seen this at Kroger, Walmart, TJMaxx, Target, and more. They’ve got a classic and a salted version; I imagine both would be great, but I used the classic.
  • Steamed heavy cream – You can also use half-and-half, but I have only done the carb calculations using heavy cream

I also garnished the mug with a Keto Caramel Sauce — It’s not necessary, but it is SO delicious! It only requires allulose, heavy cream, butter, and vanilla extract. It’s easy to meal prep and have in the fridge for a quick craving.

This cozy Keto Bourbon Caramel Latte is perfect for a camping trip, a warm nightcap, or a cold snow day! Under 2 net carbs, this sugar free drink is the perfect balance of bitter and sweet.

How do I make this caramel latte?

The most complicated thing about this latte is steaming the heavy cream! Beyond that, the drink itself is so simple — No shaker or fancy things needed. Just pour your coffee, whiskey, syrup, and steamed cream into the cup. Stir and serve!

Because I love a garnished glass, I poured Keto Caramel Sauce (you could use store bought or even a sugar free chocolate sauce) on the inside edge of your glass, tilting it so it drips down to coat the inside of your glass.

Tips for the best caramel coffee

  • Add toppings! This Keto Caramel Sauce is one of my absolute favorites and it would be amazing with this recipe.
  • Don’t skip the step of adding the sauce to the inside of your cup. Not only does this look impressive, it adds another layer of sweetness to your drink!
  • You want your coffee to be warm for this keto drink, so all of the ingredients will blend well together.
  • Make this drink to your personal preferences! If you only want a little whiskey, don’t add the full amount. Or if you prefer more sweetness to your drink, add more syrup. If you add more heavy cream, you’ll make this drink even more indulgent. It’s all up to what you want!

Can I make this sugar free coffee with decaf?

Yes, absolutely. If you are sensitive to caffeine or you just prefer decaf, you can easily use decaf in this recipe. This is a great nightcap recipe, so if you’re planning on enjoying this before bed, decaf would be ideal!

This creamy Vanilla Bourbon Iced Latte is the perfect brunch or vacation kick-starter! With two shots of espresso and a generous dose of bourbon, this keto cocktail is sure to get you going!

Vanilla Bourbon Iced Latte

This keto cocktail has got a serious kick! This Vanilla Bourbon Iced Latte has two shots of espresso, a vanilla sugar free syrup, heavy cream and your favorite whiskey! This sugar free drink is perfect for starting your vacation, enjoying with brunch or over the weekend! You won’t believe this drink is only 3 net carbs!

This recipe requires only 4 ingredients and is super easy to make to your personal preferences. If you prefer more of a vanilla flavor, add more syrup! Or less bourbon, no problem. You can even make this drink with a decaf espresso, so you wind down in the evening with a delicious keto cocktail. The whiskey and the coffee compliment each other extremely well, so you really can’t go wrong with any combinations in this keto coffee drink!

What is a latte?

A latte is a combination of shots of espresso and steamed milk, or in this case, heavy cream. This creates a creamy drink and the coffee flavor is a little less noticeable than a cappuccino.

This creamy Vanilla Bourbon Iced Latte is the perfect brunch or vacation kick-starter! With two shots of espresso and a generous dose of bourbon, this keto cocktail is sure to get you going! This creamy Vanilla Bourbon Iced Latte is the perfect brunch or vacation kick-starter! With two shots of espresso and a generous dose of bourbon, this keto cocktail is sure to get you going!

Ingredients in this Iced Latte

As always, here is a quick overview of the ingredients used in our Vanilla Iced Latte. For the complete recipe, just scroll to the bottom of the page.

  • Bourbon whiskey – Choose your favorite variety, preferably something with nice vanilla tones if you like a strong taste.
  • Espresso – Made ahead of time and chilled.
  • Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup – This can often be found near the coffee aisle. Another brand or a homemade vanilla double simple syrup would work as well.
  • Heavy cream – You can also use half-and-half to save some calories and fat, but I have only done the nutrition calculations with heavy cream

How do I make this vanilla latte?

All you need to make this keto cocktail is a glass! Add ice to a tall glass and pour over the espresso, whiskey, syrup and cream. Stir and enjoy!

You could easily add some sugar-free whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate or caramel sauce for a super special drink.

Can I make this keto drink with decaf espresso?

Of course! If you are not a fan of caffeine or you want to enjoy this cocktail later in the evening, you can easily swap out the regular espresso for decaf.

Preferences for this keto coffee

This cocktail packs quite a punch, so don’t be shy about adjusting the ingredients to fit your preferences! If the bourbon is too strong for you, of course you can adjust the cocktail to include less.

You can also increase or decrease the amount of syrup, espresso or heavy cream you use in this vanilla latte. If you prefer coffee to espresso, feel free to make that substitution as well, but keep in mind that the flavor of the bourbon will be more pronounced. Make this drink completely yours so you can make it in the future to your exact preferences!

This creamy Vanilla Bourbon Iced Latte is the perfect brunch or vacation kick-starter! With two shots of espresso and a generous dose of bourbon, this keto cocktail is sure to get you going!

Sugar Free Syrups

There are so many fantastic types of sugar free syrups on the market now! This is the type I used in this cocktail, but if you have another one you like, go with that! There are so many flavors of these keto syrups. Caramel, mocha, peanut butter cup, mint chocolate chip– really any flavor you can think of!

Pickleback Cocktail

This Pickleback is a unique drink with a super interesting flavor! If you love whiskey and pickles, you will absolutely love this surprising cocktail. It’s going to be everyone’s favorite new tailgate drink this season!

Smoky bourbon, vinegary pickle juice, and tangy lime juice are all evened out with a homemade sugar-free simple syrup. It’s a well-balanced cocktail that is great to serve with a lot of bar food, grilled dishes, and meaty meals. It’s a great option for those who normally don’t like overly sweet or fruity drinks!

While I used dill pickle juice, you could easily use the juice from bread and butter pickles, spicy pickles, or whatever type you prefer. When you finish a jar of pickles, it’s easy to freeze the juice in ice cube trays, then you can thaw just enough for cocktails whenever you’d like!

Because this isn’t a frozen drink and doesn’t include soda water, you can mix it up ahead of time, then serve on the rocks whenever you’re ready. Make a big jug of it and take for parties, camping, potlucks, tailgating, and more!

Keto Pickleback Ingredients

Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need. Keep scrolling down to the printable recipe card for the exact measurements!

How to make a Pickleback sugar free

This drink is very straightforward! Simply put the whiskey, pickle juice, lime juice, and sugar free simple syrup into a shaker with ice. Shake for about 30 seconds before straining over ice with a pickle garnish.

Pickleback Cocktail Glassware

This drink is most often served in an old fashioned glass on the rocks.

Meet the Pickleback -- A delicious keto cocktail featuring bourbon and pickle juice, perfect for tailgating season! Just 4 ingredients needed for this sugar free drink under 3 net carbs!

How to make sugar free simple syrup

Keto Simple Syrup is incredibly easy to make! I’ve had success using two different ways — One using liquid monk fruit sweetener and one using allulose sweetener! I did not have success making simple syrup by dissolving any erythritol-based products (like Swerve or monk fruit sweeteners that contain erythritol). The erythritol will begin to crystalize as it cools down, so it’s not great for mixed drinks.

Simple Syrup with Allulose:

Bring 1 1/4 cup of allulose and 1 cup of water to a boil and stir until allulose has dissolved. Let cool completely, then store in an airtight container in the fridge up to a month. This syrup has very little aftertaste and is thicker like normal simple syrup.

Simple Syrup with Liquid Monk Fruit:

Pour about 1 tablespoon of liquid monk fruit sweetener into 1 cup of water. Adjust a few drops at a time until you’ve reached your taste preference. This syrup is fairly inexpensive to make, you don’t have to bother heating up and cooling down the syrup before using it, and it makes the sweetness of your drinks to be easily adjustable.

How many carbs in whiskey?

There are zero carbs in bourbon. The danger of a whiskey cocktail usually resides in the mixers often tossed in the glass with it. However, if you can make sure to use sugar free simple syrup and choose low-carb additions, you can enjoy several bourbon cocktails without consuming too many carbs. This Keto Mint Julep has 0 net carbs (and only 0.1 total carbs)!

Meet the Pickleback -- A delicious keto cocktail featuring bourbon and pickle juice, perfect for tailgating season! Just 4 ingredients needed for this sugar free drink under 3 net carbs!

Why drink pickle juice on keto?

Often, people on the keto diet will recommend drinking pickle juice and eating pickles. It’s a great source of potassium and sodium, and those electrolytes are important to healthy body functions. The vinegar in pickle juice can also help curb sugar spikes, helping you stay in ketosis. The fermentation from the pickling process helps introduce more healthy bacteria into the gut, helping ease digestive issues, too!

Obviously, this keto cocktail is for fun, not for health. But it is nice to get in a little healthy boost whenever you can!

What to serve with a Pickleback drink

This is the ideal drink for juicy cookout food! For the ultimate keto tailgate, enjoy the briny drink with a Keto Bacon Cheeseburger, this Chicken Bacon Ranch Chaffle Sandwich, or these Keto Steak Wraps. Add some Smoked Queso and some Bacon Wrapped Green Beans, and you’re good to go! It’d be great with some brats or this Sausage Sheet Pan Dinner, too.

To host your own keto happy hour, enjoy bar food favorites like Jalapeno Popper Stuffed Mushrooms, Air Fryer Buffalo Wings, Ranch Zucchini Chips, and Bacon Cheddar Cauliflower Tots for the BEST low-carb snacks!

Can I make this drink ahead of time?

You could mix your bourbon, juices, and simple syrup ahead of time, just store them in the fridge without ice. Within a day or two, serve on the rocks!

Keto Basil Whiskey Sour

This keto cocktail was made for front porch sitting! The sour lemon juice and homemade sugar-free simple syrup mix with earthy basil leaves for the PERFECT keto whiskey drink! You’ll love a Basil Whiskey Sour as a brunch cocktail or nightcap.

If you don’t have time to make your own simple syrup, don’t worry–This drink can easily be made with a quick muddle of basil leaves, liquid monk fruit, and water! It can be made with little to no preparation, so it’s the ideal sugar-free drink for unexpected guests! Add a quick charcuterie board for a super easy little get-together.

Keto Whiskey Sour Ingredients

This Basil Whiskey Sour is sugar free and perfect for a keto cocktail! A classic bourbon drink with an herby twist makes for your new favorite summer drink... All for under 2 net carbs each!

Basil Sugar Free Simple Syrup

To start, make a sugar-free simple syrup infused with basil leaves! In a small pot, combine water, basil leaves, and liquid monk fruit sweetener. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and allow to simmer for 20 minutes. Finally, allow to cool for 20 minutes, strain, and pour into an airtight container.

This syrup will keep in the fridge for several weeks and is great in many cocktails! Use it in a gin fizz or a lemon drop for a tasty drink straight for the garden. If using a different brand of liquid monk fruit sweetener, you may want to start with half the amount and add to taste. You can add more sweetener before or after simmering, so it’s easy to adjust for your preferences!

Time Saver Tip:

Don’t have time to make the syrup? You can still make this drink! In your cocktail shaker, muddle 5-6 basil leaves with 1.5 tablespoons water and 1/4-1/2 teaspoon liquid monk fruit sweetener. Add ice, bourbon, and lemon juice, then shake and serve. I don’t feel like the basil flavor is quite as strong, but this method will work in a pinch.

This Basil Whiskey Sour is sugar free and perfect for a keto cocktail! A classic bourbon drink with an herby twist makes for your new favorite summer drink... All for under 2 net carbs each!

How to make a sugar free whiskey sour

In a cocktail shaker full of ice, pour over your whiskey, homemade basil simple syrup, and lemon juice. Shake at least 30 seconds, then pour into a double old fashioned glass full of ice (optional). Garnish with a lemon slice and basil leaves.

Note: Some people don’t serve whiskey sours with ice because it waters down the drink. I prefer it with ice, but you can easily serve this in a smaller glass without ice if that’s your style.

What to serve with a Keto Whiskey Sour

This Keto Whiskey Sour has a great balance of sweet, tart, and earthy elements. This balanced drink would go great with dishes like One Pan Tuscan Chicken, Italian Chopped Salad, or Instant Pot Carnitas. Seafood dishes like Bacon Wrapped Scallops or Shrimp Alfredo would also pair well with this cocktail! For appetizers, consider serving with Air Fryer Steak Tips and Air Fryer Cauliflower.

Made with a keto simple syrup, this drink comes out to ZERO net carbs!I used Liquid Monkfruit to replace the sugar, so you lose the carbs but none of the flavor. Try my Keto Margarita or Keto Lemon Drop for more great ideas on how to use this low carb simple syrup!

Enjoy a Keto Mint Julep on the porch, during brunches, barbecues, parties, weddings, or the event it’s most famous for- the Kentucky Derby! This Southern cocktail staple is known for being a huge hit at the races- with over 100,000 sold at the event itself!

Make a batch for your Derby party and be ready for everyone to be shocked when you tell them the cocktail has no net carbs! Trust me, this sugar free drink will quickly become one of your favorites!

This Keto Mint Julep uses a sugar-free simple syrup, fresh mint, and a classic Kentucky bourbon for a refreshing cocktail... ZERO net carbs!

What is in a Mint Julep?

A Mint Julep is a blend of bourbon (which is a type of whisky), mint leaves, water, simple syrup and crushed ice. This Southern cocktail is incredibly delicious, as well as being very refreshing!

How to make a Mint Julep

First, you’ll need to prepare your keto simple syrup. Take your Liquid Monkfruit and mix with water. Monkfruit is very sweet, much sweetener than sugar, so you need a very small amount. One tablespoon per one cup of water is all that’s needed. If you prefer things to be a little less sweet, or if you’re using a different brand, I recommend starting at 1/2 a tablespoon per one cup of water and adjusting as needed.

In a cocktail glass, add your mint leaves and simple syrup. Muddle, or lightly mash the leaves, for about 30 seconds. Add your crushed ice to your glass, add your bourbon and a splash of water. Stir and serve!

This Keto Mint Julep uses a sugar-free simple syrup, fresh mint, and a classic Kentucky bourbon for a refreshing cocktail... ZERO net carbs!

What should I serve with a Mint Julep?

Southern food is famous for its flavor for a reason! Serve up some classic Southern dishes with a keto twist, like these Keto Shrimp and Grits, Sausage and Spinach Quiche or this Keto Fried Chicken. For dessert, serve Keto Brownie Pie, Lemon Cookies or Cheesecake Strawberries!

Do you have to serve this in Mint Julep cups?

Nope! This keto cocktail works well in Old Fashioned Glasses or Highball Cups. Classic Mint Julep Cups are usually silver- they get very cold and chill quickly, but if you don’t have any, it’s not a problem.

  • Because there are so few ingredients, the splash of water is important to mellow out the bourbon. You can use sparkling water if you want to add some fizz.
  • Crushed ice is ideal for the Mint Julep because it’s not shaken. The crushed ice melts quickly, chilling the glass and softening the alcohol taste.
  • If you don’t want to make the simple syrup, you can instead add about 1/3 teaspoon of the liquid monkfruit and about 2 tablespoons of water to the mint, then muddle.
  • If you don’t like sweet drinks, start with just 1/2 ounce of simple syrup. Increase sweetener to your preference.

Blackberry Bourbon Smash

This is one of my all-time FAVORITE cocktails, and I’m so excited to finally have figured out a delicious keto friendly version! This keto cocktail is bright, beautiful, and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Instead of using the classic lemon, I opted to use lime juice in this drink–It blends so beautifully with the blackberries!

The gorgeous color comes from first creating a sugar-free blackberry simple syrup. It’s perfect for bridal showers, brunches, and pool parties! It isn’t overly sweet and is a cocktail that is easily paired with many different foods. You’ll definitely want to add this to your next keto happy hour!

Ingredients for Keto Blackberry Whiskey Sour

Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need for this keto cocktail. Keep scrolling to the printable recipe card for exact measurements!

  • Bourbon whiskey
  • Blackberry syrup
  • Lime juice : I used freshly squeezed lime juice, but bottled will work, too.
  • Mint leaves
  • Blackberry soda water : I used a Soda Stream to make my flavored soda water for an added punch of flavor, but you can use plain sparkling water if you prefer.
  • Ice

How to make a Blackberry Bourbon Smash

In a cocktail shaker, add your mint leaves, lime juice, and blackberry syrup. Muddle for 30 seconds, until leaves are bruised and mixture is fragrant. Add ice and bourbon, then shake until extremely cold. Strain and pour into an Old Fashioned glass full of ice, then fill to the top with soda water.

How to make a Keto Blackberry Syrup

This is so simple–For this syrup, add 2 cups of blackberries, 2 teaspoons of lime juice, 1 cup of water, and 1 tablespoon of liquid monk fruit sweetener to a small pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally, smashing the blackberries (I used a potato masher). By the end of the simmering time, your blackberries should look like the second picture above–Macerated, mushy, and smashed.

Remove the syrup from the heat and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Once cooled, strain and more into an airtight jar. This can be stored in the fridge for 1 month. You can use it as a 1:1 substitute in any recipe that calls for a plain simple syrup for a beautiful blackberry twist!

Whiskey Sour vs. Whiskey Smash

A Whiskey Sour and a Bourbon Smash are incredibly similar–They use the same ingredients, but they go about the process just a tad differently. Whiskey Sours include whiskey, simple syrup, and lemon juice. A Whiskey Smash includes whiskey, simple syrup, and chunks of lemons. Literally the only difference is the act of smashing the lemons to draw out the juice instead of juicing the lemon on its own.

If you want to get technical, my version of this drink is closer to being a Blackberry Whiskey Sour. I don’t love having the chunks of lime and blackberries, so I smash my blackberries in the syrup and strain it before adding it to the drink. If you would prefer to have a more classic whiskey smash, here are the amounts you’ll need:

In a cocktail shaker, smash your lemon chunks, blackberries, and mint leaves with the simple syrup. Add ice and bourbon, shake, and pour into a glass. Fill to the top with soda water.

What to serve with a Blackberry Bourbon Smash

Both blackberry and bourbon complement beef, so I love serving these Keto Steak Rolls with this drink. They’re cute and appetizer-sized, and a serving of 4 of them comes to just 4.3 net carbs. BBQ Cheddar Meatballs and Instant Pot Tacos with Spicy Coleslaw would also be great options.

Spicy or smoky foods will provide a great contrast with the sweetness of the syrup and blackberries, so consider serving these with Keto BBQ, Buffalo Wings, or a Buffalo Chicken Salad
