This Keto Moscow Mule is the refreshing low-carb cocktail you'll love. Only 3 ingredients necessary for this delicious ginger drink at about 1 carb each!

Moscow Mule

When you need a breath of fresh air in a glass, this Moscow Mule has you covered! Using a sugar-free ginger beer, you can get that same delicious flavor without all the carbs. This keto cocktail has just 1.1 net carb each, making it the perfect happy hour drink!

Moscow Mules are all about being as cold as possible. The classic copper mug, crushed ice, chilled ginger beer, and a quick stir all work together to make your drink ice cold and your mug nice and frosty. This drink is still delicious without being ridiculously cold, though, so don’t skip it just because you may not be able to get it to its coldest!

You can make this drink as simple or as “fancy” as you’d like. For the BEST mule, use a real lime, crushed ice, good ginger beer, and serve in a copper mug. To keep it simple and convenient, use bottled lime juice, whatever ice you have, ginger ale, and any glass you can find. Either way, you’ll have a satisfying, refreshing beverage!

Ingredients for a Keto Moscow Mule

Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need — Just 3 ingredients! Keep scrolling down to the printable recipe card for specific measurements. You will also need ice — Crushed is best, but cubed works, too.

  • Lime – The absolute BEST Moscow Mule comes from using a real lime, but bottled lime juice is so convenient and will still result in a delicious drink.
  • Vodka – You don’t have to worry about going for the top shelf for a good mule. Don’t go super cheap, but a “middle of the road” vodka will do just fine.
  • Sugar-Free Ginger Beer – Check the label, but this should have 0 carbs! Sugar-free ginger ale can be used instead, but it will have a weaker ginger flavor.

How to Make a Moscow Mule

This drink is simple, especially since it has 3 easy, convenient ingredients. This step-by-step guide shows you how to make a Moscow Mule keto. For a non-keto Moscow Mule, just replace the sugar-free ginger beer with regular ginger beer.

Add lime

This step is a little “extra,” and you can easily skip it if you’d like. For the absolute best lime flavor, squeeze the fresh lime juice into your Moscow Mule copper mug, then toss in the rest of the lime. Yes, this does mean you will have some pulp, but the lime peel provides a ton of flavor!

If you are using bottled lime juice or would prefer to not have the pulp, skip this step and add lime with the other ingredients in the next step.

Add remaining ingredients

On top of the squeezed lime, pour in ice and vodka. If you can use crushed ice, that’s best because it’ll make the drink super cold, exactly way a Moscow Mule should be. Finally, top with ginger beer and have a quick stir to chill the entire thing.

This Keto Moscow Mule is the refreshing low-carb cocktail you'll love. Only 3 ingredients necessary for this delicious ginger drink at about 1 carb each!

Serve

A lime wedge or slice is the perfect garnish when serving this drink. A sprig of mint adds a touch of color and a great flavor if it’s stirred in, too!

This Moscow Mule would be delicious paired with so many foods! Many Asian cuisines rely on heavy ginger and lime flavors, so it amps up that same flavor profile in the Mule. Fresh seafood is an excellent pairing as well, but it works the opposite way — It is so neutral and fresh, it lets the drink be the star. FAQ’s about Moscow Mules

Why do Moscow Mules come in a copper mug?

The Moscow Mule is meant to be enjoyed as cold as possible. Copper does a great job of keeping drinks cold because of its thermal conductivity properties. It doesn’t make your drinks cold, but putting a cold drink with ice into will help the drink stay super cold for much longer than glass or plastic.

Do you have to use a copper cup for a Moscow Mule?

No, a Moscow Mule is delicious in pretty much any kind of cup, glass, or mug you prefer! If possible, choose a cup that will help your drink stay cold, even if it’s not the perfect copper cup.

What kind of ice do you use for Moscow Mules?

If you have crushed ice available, that’s best. Crushed ice keeps the drink super cold, just like the traditional Moscow Mule is supposed to be. However, regular ice works just fine — It’s even what I used for convenience’s sake. I wouldn’t use oversized ice as it melts too slowly to keep the drink super cold.

The BEST Keto Cocktails

Just because you’re on a keto diet doesn’t mean you have to give up your happy hour! Enjoy any of these low carb cocktails and stick to your diet goals- these drinks are sugar free, and each one is low carb and keto! Most liquors are naturally low carb, but once you start incorporating the syrups and other add-ins, you really up the carb count. I lower the carbs (and calories!) by using my Keto Simple Syrup and Sugar Free Syrups. This way you can still enjoy a delicious cocktail in the evening, but without having to worry about the carbs!

You can easily make a large batch of these cocktails to serve at your next party, brunch, bridal shower, birthday party- really, any celebration! No one will ever believe you that these drinks are keto- there’s so much flavor in each of them, they’ll think you’re a professional bartender! Serve with a tray of Keto Snacks, Keto Desserts or a beautifully simple Charcuterie Board for a lovely presentation and some delicious recipes! PS- don’t forget the cookies!

Keto Simple Syrup

My Keto Simple Syrup has been a game changer in my keto cocktail routine! I make this super easy simple syrup with only Liquid Monkfruit and water, making this easy homemade simple syrup zero calorie, sugar free and zero carbs! Simple syrup is a staple of many cocktails, and by replacing traditional simple syrup with this homemade keto syrup, you can have beautiful keto cocktails that taste like you got them at your favorite restaurant, but at home and without any of the carbs!

You only need two ingredients to make this keto simple syrup- water and Liquid Monkfruit. You don’t even need to boil water to make this! Just combine one cup of water with one tablespoon of the monkfruit and stir. That’s it! If you wanted a richer syrup, you could add more of the sweetener. Store in the fridge or on the countertop! You can use this syrup in a 1:1 conversion with traditional simple syrup.

Can you drink alcohol on keto?

Yes, you can! It does depend on the type of alcohol you are wanting to enjoy. Beer and wine are high in carbs and are not recommended on a keto diet. Traditional mixed drinks tend to be high in carbs, but that’s why I’ve made my own recipes so you can enjoy delicious sugar free cocktails! Most spirits are naturally carb free, so they’re a great way to enjoy a keto happy hour! Tequila, whiskey, gin, vodka and rum each contain zero carbs, so they’re perfect for your bar cart!

More keto drinks

Of course, there are other ways to enjoy keto drinks besides cocktails! Below are some of my favorite ways to enjoy a sugar free sip!

Meet the Pickleback -- A delicious keto cocktail featuring bourbon and pickle juice, perfect for tailgating season! Just 4 ingredients needed for this sugar free drink under 3 net carbs!

Pickleback Cocktail

This Pickleback is a unique drink with a super interesting flavor! If you love whiskey and pickles, you will absolutely love this surprising cocktail. It’s going to be everyone’s favorite new tailgate drink this season!

Smoky bourbon, vinegary pickle juice, and tangy lime juice are all evened out with a homemade sugar-free simple syrup. It’s a well-balanced cocktail that is great to serve with a lot of bar food, grilled dishes, and meaty meals. It’s a great option for those who normally don’t like overly sweet or fruity drinks!

While I used dill pickle juice, you could easily use the juice from bread and butter pickles, spicy pickles, or whatever type you prefer. When you finish a jar of pickles, it’s easy to freeze the juice in ice cube trays, then you can thaw just enough for cocktails whenever you’d like!

Because this isn’t a frozen drink and doesn’t include soda water, you can mix it up ahead of time, then serve on the rocks whenever you’re ready. Make a big jug of it and take for parties, camping, potlucks, tailgating, and more!

Keto Pickleback Ingredients

Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need. Keep scrolling down to the printable recipe card for the exact measurements!

How to make a Pickleback sugar free

This drink is very straightforward! Simply put the whiskey, pickle juice, lime juice, and sugar free simple syrup into a shaker with ice. Shake for about 30 seconds before straining over ice with a pickle garnish.

Pickleback Cocktail Glassware

This drink is most often served in an old fashioned glass on the rocks.

Meet the Pickleback -- A delicious keto cocktail featuring bourbon and pickle juice, perfect for tailgating season! Just 4 ingredients needed for this sugar free drink under 3 net carbs!

How to make sugar free simple syrup

Keto Simple Syrup is incredibly easy to make! I’ve had success using two different ways — One using liquid monk fruit sweetener and one using allulose sweetener! I did not have success making simple syrup by dissolving any erythritol-based products (like Swerve or monk fruit sweeteners that contain erythritol). The erythritol will begin to crystalize as it cools down, so it’s not great for mixed drinks.

Simple Syrup with Allulose:

Bring 1 1/4 cup of allulose and 1 cup of water to a boil and stir until allulose has dissolved. Let cool completely, then store in an airtight container in the fridge up to a month. This syrup has very little aftertaste and is thicker like normal simple syrup.

Simple Syrup with Liquid Monk Fruit:

Pour about 1 tablespoon of liquid monk fruit sweetener into 1 cup of water. Adjust a few drops at a time until you’ve reached your taste preference. This syrup is fairly inexpensive to make, you don’t have to bother heating up and cooling down the syrup before using it, and it makes the sweetness of your drinks to be easily adjustable.

How many carbs in whiskey?

There are zero carbs in bourbon. The danger of a whiskey cocktail usually resides in the mixers often tossed in the glass with it. However, if you can make sure to use sugar free simple syrup and choose low-carb additions, you can enjoy several bourbon cocktails without consuming too many carbs. This Keto Mint Julep has 0 net carbs (and only 0.1 total carbs)!

Meet the Pickleback -- A delicious keto cocktail featuring bourbon and pickle juice, perfect for tailgating season! Just 4 ingredients needed for this sugar free drink under 3 net carbs!

Why drink pickle juice on keto?

Often, people on the keto diet will recommend drinking pickle juice and eating pickles. It’s a great source of potassium and sodium, and those electrolytes are important to healthy body functions. The vinegar in pickle juice can also help curb sugar spikes, helping you stay in ketosis. The fermentation from the pickling process helps introduce more healthy bacteria into the gut, helping ease digestive issues, too!

Obviously, this keto cocktail is for fun, not for health. But it is nice to get in a little healthy boost whenever you can!

What to serve with a Pickleback drink

This is the ideal drink for juicy cookout food! For the ultimate keto tailgate, enjoy the briny drink with a Keto Bacon Cheeseburger, this Chicken Bacon Ranch Chaffle Sandwich, or these Keto Steak Wraps. Add some Smoked Queso and some Bacon Wrapped Green Beans, and you’re good to go! It’d be great with some brats or this Sausage Sheet Pan Dinner, too.

To host your own keto happy hour, enjoy bar food favorites like Jalapeno Popper Stuffed Mushrooms, Air Fryer Buffalo Wings, Ranch Zucchini Chips, and Bacon Cheddar Cauliflower Tots for the BEST low-carb snacks!

Can I make this drink ahead of time?

You could mix your bourbon, juices, and simple syrup ahead of time, just store them in the fridge without ice. Within a day or two, serve on the rocks!

Spicy Watermelon Keto Margarita

This keto cocktail is going to be your go-to drink of the summer! Made with a sugar free jalapeno simple syrup, lime juice, chopped watermelon and your favorite tequila, you won’t be able to get enough of this skinny cocktail! At only 3.4 net carbs and 111 calories a serving, you can still enjoy this refreshing drink while sticking to your keto diet!

This keto drink is perfect for entertaining. The pretty light pink color makes it a great addition to any table, but especially bridal showers, brunch or any celebration you’re having! This sugar free cocktail doesn’t use any margarita mix and it also doesn’t contain erythritol, so if you are sensitive to sugar alcohols, you won’t have a problem with this low carb drink!

I added some orange sparkling water to this skinny margarita as a substitute for triple sec, but it’s completely optional. I also think a lime sparkling water would have complimented this very well. Serve with Shrimp con Queso or Steak Fajitas for an amazing keto meal! This recipe can easily be made as a frozen margarita or on the rocks.

Whether you want your margarita sparkling, on the rocks, or frozen, it’s super easy to customize. You can also adjust the amount of spice in your simple syrup to your personal preference. This drink will cure your summer watermelon craving!

This Spicy Watermelon Keto Margarita is the ultimate summer cocktail! Super refreshing and about 3 net carbs each!

Ingredients for Watermelon Margarita

As always, here is a quick overview of the ingredients used in our keto margarita. For the complete recipe, just scroll to the bottom of the page.

  • Sugar free simple syrup- made with liquid monkfruit sweetener and Jalapenos
  • Tequila- Silver tequila (sometimes referred to as tequila blanco) is best for margaritas
  • Lime juice- I used freshly squeezed, but the bottled version is also fine.
  • Watermelon- chopped & seedless
  • Optional: Orange sparkling water- you can use a different flavor or an unflavored sparkling water here. This just adds back some citrus flavor since we are omitting the triple sec
  • Ice
  • Garnish- lime wedges, salt or watermelon wedges (don’t add too much watermelon if you’re keto- it does have a high amount of carbs)

How to make Sugar Free Simple Syrup with Jalapenos

To make this keto simple syrup, slice up 1-2 jalapenos and add to a small pot with 1.25 cups of water. Bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain your water into a jar and add 1 tablespoon of liquid monkfruit. Store in the fridge for several weeks. Give your jar a good shake to make sure you get good, balanced flavor.

This sugar free simple syrup is so easy to make and can be customized to your particular spicy or sweetness level! If you prefer more or less sweetness, then adjust your liquid monkfruit accordingly. For additional heat, increase your jalapenos. 1 jalapeno without the seeds is going to give you a very mild flavor with just a hint of spice (perfect for those who don’t love spicy recipes). Two jalapenos without the seeds is mildly spicy, but if you prefer a hotter flavor, just add the seeds of the jalapenos!

This Spicy Watermelon Keto Margarita is the ultimate summer cocktail! Super refreshing and about 3 net carbs each!

How to make a Keto Margarita

Add your tequila, lime juice, simple syrup and watermelon to a blender. If you’re making frozen margaritas, add a glass full of ice. Blend until the watermelon is well incorporated with the rest of the ingredients. If you’re using ice, blend to a slushie consistency. Salt the rim of your glass. If you’re serving on the rocks, add ice to your glass. Add your blended ingredients, top with sparkling water and serve!

Can you make frozen margaritas?

Absolutely! Just blend everything with ice, except for the sparkling water, which you’ll add right before serving. You can use fresh or frozen watermelon.

Keto Basil Whiskey Sour

This keto cocktail was made for front porch sitting! The sour lemon juice and homemade sugar-free simple syrup mix with earthy basil leaves for the PERFECT keto whiskey drink! You’ll love a Basil Whiskey Sour as a brunch cocktail or nightcap.

If you don’t have time to make your own simple syrup, don’t worry–This drink can easily be made with a quick muddle of basil leaves, liquid monk fruit, and water! It can be made with little to no preparation, so it’s the ideal sugar-free drink for unexpected guests! Add a quick charcuterie board for a super easy little get-together.

This Basil Whiskey Sour is sugar free and perfect for a keto cocktail! A classic bourbon drink with an herby twist makes for your new favorite summer drink... All for under 2 net carbs each!

Basil Sugar Free Simple Syrup

To start, make a sugar-free simple syrup infused with basil leaves! In a small pot, combine water, basil leaves, and liquid monk fruit sweetener. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and allow to simmer for 20 minutes. Finally, allow to cool for 20 minutes, strain, and pour into an airtight container.

This syrup will keep in the fridge for several weeks and is great in many cocktails! Use it in a gin fizz or a lemon drop for a tasty drink straight for the garden. If using a different brand of liquid monk fruit sweetener, you may want to start with half the amount and add to taste. You can add more sweetener before or after simmering, so it’s easy to adjust for your preferences!

Time Saver Tip:

Don’t have time to make the syrup? You can still make this drink! In your cocktail shaker, muddle 5-6 basil leaves with 1.5 tablespoons water and 1/4-1/2 teaspoon liquid monk fruit sweetener. Add ice, bourbon, and lemon juice, then shake and serve. I don’t feel like the basil flavor is quite as strong, but this method will work in a pinch.

How to make a sugar free whiskey sour

In a cocktail shaker full of ice, pour over your whiskey, homemade basil simple syrup, and lemon juice. Shake at least 30 seconds, then pour into a double old fashioned glass full of ice (optional). Garnish with a lemon slice and basil leaves.

Note: Some people don’t serve whiskey sours with ice because it waters down the drink. I prefer it with ice, but you can easily serve this in a smaller glass without ice if that’s your style.

What to serve with a Keto Whiskey Sour

This Keto Whiskey Sour has a great balance of sweet, tart, and earthy elements. This balanced drink would go great with dishes like One Pan Tuscan Chicken, Italian Chopped Salad, or Instant Pot Carnitas. Seafood dishes like Bacon Wrapped Scallops or Shrimp Alfredo would also pair well with this cocktail! For appetizers, consider serving with Air Fryer Steak Tips and Air Fryer Cauliflower.

  1. In a small pot, add your water, basil, and monk fruit. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low for 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 20 minutes. Pour through a fine mesh strainer and store in the fridge up to 2 weeks.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, add your bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and ice. Shake at least 30 seconds or until cocktail shaker is extremely cold.
  3. Pour over ice in a double old fashioned glass. Garnish with a lemon slice and sprig of basil.

Notes

Quick, no-prep simple syrup alternative: In your cocktail shaker, muddle 5-6 basil leaves with 1.5 tablespoons water and 1/4-1/2 teaspoon liquid monk fruit sweetener. Add ice, bourbon, and lemon juice, then shake and serve.

Kiwi Cucumber Gin Cocktail

This Kiwi Cucumber Gin Cocktail tastes incredibly refreshing! Kiwi, cucumber, and lime come together for a lightly sweet, bright-tasting drink. It’s perfect for sipping on a hot summer day or pairing with a fresh grilled dinner.

It has no added sugar or sugar alcohols (thanks to the homemade sugar-free simple syrup), but kiwis aren’t super low in natural sugars. For this reason, this tall drink comes in at 6.1 net carbs each. This is higher than most of my other keto cocktails, but it’s too delicious to not share with you!

This drink is beautiful and offers up so many fun garnish possibilities–Perfect for a party! Slice the cucumbers long and have them wrapped around the inside of the glass… Cut the kiwis into stars and thread onto a long cocktail stir stick… Finish off with a perfect lime twist… The eye-catching presentation choices are limitless!

Kiwi Cucumber Gin Cocktail Ingredients

Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need. Keep scrolling to see exact measurements!

  • Gin : If possible, pick something with floral notes. Any gin will be great, but a floral one is amazing with the cucumber.
  • Cucumber : Cut into chunks or slices
  • Mint : Fresh mint leaves are best. If you only have mint extract, add just a few drops at a time… Feel free to add more to your preference once you’ve poured the drink.
  • Keto Kiwi Simple Syrup : This is a homemade easy sugar-free simple syrup, made with kiwis, water, lemon juice, and liquid monk fruit sweetener. You can use a store-bought sugar free simple syrup, too.
  • Lime Juice : I used freshly squeezed lime juice, but bottled will work just fine as well.
  • Sparkling Water : You can use unflavored or flavored sparkling water.
  • Ice : I would avoid crushed ice if possible simply because it will melt faster and water down the drink.

How do you make a gin cocktail with cucumber?

Start by putting about 1/4 cup of cucumber chunks and the mint leaves into a cocktail shaker with 1 ounce of your kiwi simple syrup and 1 ounce of lime juice. Muddle the cucumber (mashing it with a muddler or the end of a wooden spoon) for at least 30 seconds–Make sure it’s quite macerated.

Next, add your ice and gin to the shaker and shake vigorously for at least 30 seconds–If you shake it long enough, you’ll get small icy flecks in your drink that are SUPER refreshing! Strain and pour into a highball or Collins glass, then fill to the top with sparkling water. Garnish with a long cucumber slice, a kiwi slice, or a lime wedge.

Sugar Free Simple Syrup with Kiwi

I make my keto and sugar-free simple syrup by combining this Now Foods Liquid Monk Fruit Sweetener with water. Because erythritol doesn’t dissolve, using a pure monk fruit is the key to a 0-carb, 0-calorie simple syrup.

You could try other brands of liquid monk fruit, but because each brand has their own level of sweetness, I recommend experimenting with half the amount of sweetener first. You can easily adjust the syrup to be sweeter at any point of the process.

To make this simple syrup with kiwi, I brought one cup of water, 2 cups of chopped kiwi (was 5 medium kiwis for me), 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of liquid monk fruit sweetener to a boil. I lowered the heat and allowed it to simmer for 20 minutes, occasionally mashing the kiwi with a potato masher. After 20 minutes, I removed it from the heat and let it cool. Once cooled, I poured the syrup through a fine mesh strainer and stored it in an airtight jar in the fridge.

If you have a plain store-bought sugar free simple syrup, you can use that instead of the water and monk fruit. Gently warm it (don’t bring to a boil–depending on the sweeteners used in it, this could cause it to thicken too much) with the kiwi and lemon juice. Occasionally stir and mash, strain, and store.

What to serve with gin cocktails?

We’re bringing out and complementing the light floral notes of the gin in this recipe, so choosing food that will fit the pallet is quite simple! Certain seafood, berries, and spices would work quite well.

  • Seafood:

    • These keto crab cakes get perfectly crispy while keeping that light flavor and feel! The added lime zest in the recipe makes this a perfect complementary recipe with this Kiwi Cucumber Gin Cocktail! Just 0.3 carbs per crab cake.
    • A 1/4 pound of this Popcorn Shrimp has 3.3 net carbs, and the smokehouse almonds used in the breading adds a beautiful contrast with the floral and citrus notes in this cocktail recipe! For even fewer carbs, try these Grilled Shrimp Skewers — Only 0.7 net carbs for 1/4 pound, and the lemon garlic combo will create a delicious, more complex flavor with this drink.
    • Blackened Salmon Skewers provide a bigger punch of flavor! The light sweetness of salmon with the bold spices would contrast perfectly with the refreshing kiwi and cucumber flavors. 2.1 net carbs per serving.
  • Fruit:

  • Spices & Herbs:

Blackberry Bourbon Smash

This is one of my all-time FAVORITE cocktails, and I’m so excited to finally have figured out a delicious keto friendly version! This keto cocktail is bright, beautiful, and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Instead of using the classic lemon, I opted to use lime juice in this drink–It blends so beautifully with the blackberries!

The gorgeous color comes from first creating a sugar-free blackberry simple syrup. It’s perfect for bridal showers, brunches, and pool parties! It isn’t overly sweet and is a cocktail that is easily paired with many different foods. You’ll definitely want to add this to your next keto happy hour!

Ingredients for Keto Blackberry Whiskey Sour

Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need for this keto cocktail. Keep scrolling to the printable recipe card for exact measurements!

  • Bourbon whiskey
  • Blackberry syrup
  • Lime juice : I used freshly squeezed lime juice, but bottled will work, too.
  • Mint leaves
  • Blackberry soda water : I used a Soda Stream to make my flavored soda water for an added punch of flavor, but you can use plain sparkling water if you prefer.
  • Ice

How to make a Blackberry Bourbon Smash

In a cocktail shaker, add your mint leaves, lime juice, and blackberry syrup. Muddle for 30 seconds, until leaves are bruised and mixture is fragrant. Add ice and bourbon, then shake until extremely cold. Strain and pour into an Old Fashioned glass full of ice, then fill to the top with soda water.

This sugar free blackberry syrup is perfect for keto cocktails! Just 4 ingredients brings you a delicious, low-carb fruity simple syrup.

How to make a Keto Blackberry Syrup

This is so simple–For this syrup, add 2 cups of blackberries, 2 teaspoons of lime juice, 1 cup of water, and 1 tablespoon of liquid monk fruit sweetener to a small pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally, smashing the blackberries (I used a potato masher). By the end of the simmering time, your blackberries should look like the second picture above–Macerated, mushy, and smashed.

Remove the syrup from the heat and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Once cooled, strain and more into an airtight jar. This can be stored in the fridge for 1 month. You can use it as a 1:1 substitute in any recipe that calls for a plain simple syrup for a beautiful blackberry twist!

Whiskey Sour vs. Whiskey Smash

A Whiskey Sour and a Bourbon Smash are incredibly similar–They use the same ingredients, but they go about the process just a tad differently. Whiskey Sours include whiskey, simple syrup, and lemon juice. A Whiskey Smash includes whiskey, simple syrup, and chunks of lemons. Literally the only difference is the act of smashing the lemons to draw out the juice instead of juicing the lemon on its own.

If you want to get technical, my version of this drink is closer to being a Blackberry Whiskey Sour. I don’t love having the chunks of lime and blackberries, so I smash my blackberries in the syrup and strain it before adding it to the drink. If you would prefer to have a more classic whiskey smash, here are the amounts you’ll need:

In a cocktail shaker, smash your lemon chunks, blackberries, and mint leaves with the simple syrup. Add ice and bourbon, shake, and pour into a glass. Fill to the top with soda water.

Try a Blackberry Bourbon Smash for a skinny keto cocktail! This beautiful low carb drink is perfect for a summer day and only 2.5 net carbs each!

What to serve with a Blackberry Bourbon Smash

Both blackberry and bourbon complement beef, so I love serving these Keto Steak Rolls with this drink. They’re cute and appetizer-sized, and a serving of 4 of them comes to just 4.3 net carbs. BBQ Cheddar Meatballs and Instant Pot Tacos with Spicy Coleslaw would also be great options.

Spicy or smoky foods will provide a great contrast with the sweetness of the syrup and blackberries, so consider serving these with Keto BBQ, Buffalo Wings, or a Buffalo Chicken Salad

Keto Mojito

Close your eyes, take a sip of this sugar-free, skinny mojito, and pretend you’re in the Caribbean! This perfect poolside sipper is low-carb and made easily with just 5 ingredients. It goes with a variety of cuisines and meals, doesn’t taste too strongly of alcohol, and is perfect for your next party!

Unlike your classic mojito, I don’t use sugar in my simple syrup–I use the same keto simple syrup as I did in the Keto Margarita recipe. This  homemade sugar-free simple syrup is made from liquid monk fruit sweetener and water! This two-ingredient syrup requires no cooling/dissolving time and is perfect in cold beverages. You can easily adjust for your preferences by adding a couple extra drops in your drink if you’d like, too!

Ingredients for Skinny Mojito

Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need. Keep scrolling to the printable recipe card for exact measurements.

  • Light rum: White or silver, I used 80 proof.
  • Lime juice: I prefer freshly squeezed, but bottled works just as well (just make sure it’s unsweetened).
  • Mint leaves: Some for muddling, some for garnish
  • Keto simple syrup: A mixture of monk fruit liquid sweetener and water
  • Lime sparkling water: I liked the extra flavor this added, but plain sparkling water will work fine, too.

This Keto Mojito is the perfect summer drink! This 5-ingredient keto cocktail includes no added sugar or sugar alcohols for a refreshing mojito recipe!

How to make a Keto Mojito

This keto cocktail comes together easily! In a shaker, add 4-5 mint leaves and your simple syrup. Muddle the two for a minute, until the leaves have infused the syrup with their minty oil. Fill the shaker with ice, then pour in rum and lime juice.

Shake vigorously until very cold, then strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Top with lime sparkling water and garnish with a lime slice and mint crown.

If you prefer a strong mint flavor, add additional mint leaves to the glass before pouring.

Homemade Sugar Free Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is usually made by dissolving sugar in water and creating a syrup. To avoid all the carbs in the classic cocktail staple, this keto simple syrup uses Now Monk Fruit Liquid Sweetener. Monk fruit is much, much sweeter than sugar, so we’re able to use a small amount–Just 1 tablespoon per 1 cup of water.

Different brands of liquid monk fruit may have varying levels of sweetness. If using a different brand, it’s best to start with maybe 1/2 tablespoon of sweetener per cup of water, then add until you reach an appropriate level of sweetness. Some brands may require less, some brands may require more.

This Keto Mojito is the perfect summer drink! This 5-ingredient keto cocktail includes no added sugar or sugar alcohols for a refreshing mojito recipe!

Can I use Swerve or Erythritol for Keto Simple Syrup?

While erythritol has a lot of great uses, it unfortunately does not dissolve in a cold beverage. Even if you try to dissolve it in boiling water, it begins to crystallize as soon as the syrup starts to cool off. This leads to inconsistent taste and a gritty texture in your cocktails, so I would not recommend using Swerve or any sweeteners with erythritol in your simple syrup.

If you add a pinch of xanthan gum to your hot water with erythritol, this should prevent the crystallization process, making it possible to use as a simple syrup. I prefer using pure liquid monk fruit for the ease and taste, though.

Can I make sugar free simple syrup ahead of time?

Yes! This simple syrup with liquid monk fruit stores easily in the fridge for weeks. Mix up a batch, store in an air-tight bottle or jar, and bring it out for happy hour whenever you’d like. Shake before using to make sure you get consistent sweetness in every drink.

This Keto Margarita is a low-carb, low-calorie dream! Using a sugar-free simple syrup makes this keto alcoholic drink perfect for Taco Tuesday--Under 2 net carbs and about 100 calories each!

Skinny Keto Margarita

Starting a keto diet doesn’t mean you have to give up your happy hour margarita! This skinny margarita recipe is keto friendly and sugar-free, so you can enjoy one (or several) with some Instant Pot Carnitas with Keto Coleslaw or this Shrimp Fajita Skillet without worrying about your carbs!

This recipe uses no margarita mix and no erythritol, perfect for people who are sensitive to sugar alcohols! There is no aftertaste and no cooling effect… Just a delicious restaurant quality keto cocktail! Instead of triple sec, we get a hint of orange by using an orange-flavored soda water. This makes this sparkling margarita even more refreshing in warm weather!

You can serve this margarita over ice or blend with ice for a low-carb frozen margarita worthy of a day at the pool. Easily multiply this recipe for a large pitcher for your next party and become everyone’s favorite host!

This Keto Margarita is a low-carb, low-calorie dream! Using a sugar-free simple syrup makes this keto alcoholic drink under 2 net carbs and about 100 calories each-- perfect for Taco Tuesday!

Keto Margarita Recipe:

Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need. For exact measurements, keep scrolling to the printable recipe card!

  • Tequila – Silver tequila (also known as tequila blanco) is best for margaritas.
  • Lime juice – I prefer freshly squeezed lime juice, but you can use the bottled version as well.
  • Simple syrup – I made a keto simple syrup using Organic Monk Fruit Liquid Sweetener mixed in water. I’ll include notes about other options below.
  • Orange sparkling water/soda water – May also use lime, plain, or other flavors. It just adds a hint of that citrus flavor that would normally come from triple sec.
  • Ice – You’ll need some for the shaker and some for the glass (whether you’re serving on the rocks or blended frozen)
  • Optional garnishes – I used lime wedges and pink Himalayan salt on the rim. Orange wedges, kosher salt mixed with citrus zest, or a mixture of salt and monkfruit blend sweetener would all work as well.

Keto Simple Syrup makes this keto margarita super easy and low carb! This skinny margarita comes in under 2 net carbs and about 100 calories.

Sugar Free Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is usually a 1:1 mixture of sugar and water. Using sugar substitutes can be tricky as some have side effects, some don’t dissolve well, and some can be expensive. Using the Monk Fruit Liquid by Now provides a perfect alternative!

This liquid monk fruit is 0-calorie, 0-carb, and 0-sugar. I’ve experienced no cooling effect or aftertaste. While it’s not exactly cheap, you only need 1 tablespoon for just over a cup of simple syrup, so a small 2 ounce bottle is enough about 4.5 cups of simple syrup (or over 60 margaritas)!

You can try this method with other liquid sweeteners, but be aware that not all liquid sweeteners have the same level of sweetness! You may want to try adding 1 teaspoon at a time until you reach a reasonable level of sweetness for your syrup. Some brands may require less, some brands may require more.

How to store simple syrup

This sugar-free simple syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for several months. Shake before using to make sure it’s well-incorporated.

This Keto Margarita is a low-carb, low-calorie dream! Using a sugar-free simple syrup makes this keto alcoholic drink under 2 net carbs and about 100 calories each-- perfect for Taco Tuesday!

Can I use a monkfruit + erythritol blend to make keto simple syrup?

Sort of, yes. One issue with the monkfruit blend is that it does not dissolve perfectly. While it looks dissolved in hot water, the crystallization process begins as soon as the mixture starts to reach room temperature. Crystallization happens quickly when put into the refrigerator, and the sweetener even separates when you try to blend it with ice.

One trick to avoid this is to add just a pinch of xanthan gum to your simple syrup while still warm. Stir this in, and it should prevent the crystallization process from occurring. If you prefer the taste of monk fruit + erythritol over the drops, this is your best bet for a sugar-free simple syrup. If using this method, you can use classic or powdered monk fruit.

How to make a keto-friendly margarita

This margarita is super easy and just takes a minute to prepare! First, you’ll want to prep your glass — Wet the rim (I like to use a lime wedge for this) and dip the outside edges of the rim in your pink Himalayan salt. This salt really helps the sweetness in the margarita pop against the tangy lime! Fill glass with ice (unless you plan to blend it… In that case, I like to fill the glass, dump that ice into the blender, THEN salt the rim).

Next, fill your shaker with ice, and pour in the tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup. Give a good shake until the tumbler is extremely cold. Strain and pour the mixture into your prepared glass and top with orange sparkling water.

Note: I served these in a 12.1 ounce double old fashioned glass. If serving in a smaller margarita-specific glass, feel free to serve without ice.

This Keto Margarita is a low-carb, low-calorie dream! Using a sugar-free simple syrup makes this keto alcoholic drink under 2 net carbs and about 100 calories each-- perfect for Taco Tuesday!

What to serve with a skinny margarita

To me, margaritas go with just about everything! For brunch, pair with Steak and Eggs, Keto Shrimp and Grits, or a Chorizo Breakfast Scramble. A laid-back summer pool party with Blackberry Brie Bites, a Charcuterie Board, and Key Lime Stuffed Strawberries can all be put together with little notice or effort, too.

If a happy hour with bar food is more your style, try serving with Keto Wings and Fries (don’t forget to serve with Jalapeno Ranch) or Keto Pretzel Bites with Cheese Sauce! Keto Nachos with Avocado Bacon Dip come together super easily and would be perfect to add to the happy hour menu as well!

Naturally, margaritas complement Mexican cuisine perfectly! Instant Pot Tacos, Easy Keto Taco Cups, and Keto Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas would all be amazing washed down with a skinny keto margarita.
